Newborn Babies Learn While Sleeping

Newborn Babies Are Capable of Learning While Sleeping

Newborn babies sleep up to eighteen hours a day, but that doesn't mean they dont't learn anything during that time. A study with 26 babies conducted by the University of Florida indicated that newborns have the capacity to learn while sleeping.

During the test the baby's were confronted with sound followed by a brief puff of wind against the eyelids. Afterwards, the sound is replayed without the breath of wind. The test shows that babies move their eyes also without the wind when perceiving the sound. According to scientists, this indicates that even sleeping babies constantly learn things.

This discovery will help early detection of abnormalities in the nervous system leading for instance to autism or dyslexia, according to the researchers.
