Arguments between Children Influence their Relationship as Adults
A quarrel between children can take a long drag. If the dispute is not immediately addressed, it might even lead to alienation in later life, according to a U.S. study.
According to the researchers, there are two types of fights. The first kind is about inequality within the family. When one child gets the feeling that the other has more privileges or has less tasks in the household it can make for hefty fights. But those are easily resolved with some help from the parents. The second type of fights is about the invasion of personal space or time and are a lot more intense.
"When the other child enters his sister's or brother's room or borrows things without asking, it could lead to a tremendous strain. If it is not immediately addressed and clear laws are made by the parents, the conflict may continue to drag. The fight may be long forgotten, the underlying resentment is maintained later in life and ensures that the children lose contact with each other", according to the researchers.
The task of parents in an argument should not be underestimated according to scientists. "It is important to make clear that an argument is no option, and to impose the guilty with a punishment. If the parents do not intervene in a quarrel, the frustration will only increase."
