Breakfast Cereals Origin of Children's Obesity
Many breakfast cereals are an unprecedented origin of sugar intake. A small bowl of cereal contains often more sugar than a piece of coffee cake, a donut, or chocolate according to British researchers .
A bowl of cereal, especially those coated chocolate or honey, contain an average of 13.6 grams of sugar per 40 grams. That makes 3 teaspoons per small bowl. A donut contains only 8.6 grams of sugar and chocolate cake only 5.4 grams. This makes breakfast cereals less healthy than all these sweet snacks.
According to British researchers these breakfast cereals are therefore at the root of obesity with children. "We think it is healthier, but actually we dish up our children an unprecedented sugarshot.
