"Noma", the restaurant of the 32-year-old chef Rene Redzepi in Copenhagen, has been named the best restaurant in the world. Noma is toppling the Spanish restaurant "El Bulli".
The title is awarded by the British magazine "Restaurant Magazine". The authority magazine consulted 800 international critics and experts who rated innovative gastronomy over haute cuisine in order to do the selection and also make the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world.
Noma is located in the port area of Copenhagen in a restored warehouse. Chef Redzepi is an ambassador of the Nordic kitchen and works mainly with local seasonal ingredients.
The famed Spanish restaurant El Bulli had between 2006 and 2009 each year consecutive the prestigious title, and chef Ferran Adrià closes its establishment in 2012 for two years to give it afterwards a different destination.
