Fur From Rats The New Trend?

More and more designers refuse the use the old fur. Designers such as Billy Reid and Oscar de la Renta go fully for the skins of possums.

More and more designers refuse the use the old fur. Besides the familiar faux, fur from rats seem increasingly popular.

The coypu was already very popular in the mid 70s, but gave way to the fur of minks. Thus, the population of coypus is getting bigger which in turn led to a destruction of the surrounding vegetation. In 2010 this might change, however, thanks to the resurgence of the possum's skin. Designers such as Billy Reid and Oscar de la Renta go fully for the skins of possums.

Animal rights activists call to ensure this trend quickly disappears. According to them, no animals are to be skinned for a coat, even though there is an overpopulation of the species concerned.
